23 Oct Surah Al-Mulk: A Daily Companion for the Heart and the Hereafter
As a Hifdhul Qur’an mentor for over 25 years, I’ve witnessed countless women transform their lives through consistent connection with the Qur’an. One surah that holds a special place in my heart – and I encourage every sister to embrace – is Surah Al-Mulk. It’s not just a chapter of the Qur’an; it’s a nightly companion, a shield, and an intercessor.
We live in a time where distractions are many and spiritual grounding can feel distant. But the beauty of Surah Al-Mulk is that it offers a simple, consistent way to reconnect with Allah every night. It’s only 30 verses, yet its impact is profound.
Why Surah Al-Mulk?
The Prophet ﷺ emphasized its importance in several authentic narrations:
- Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: “There is a surah in the Qur’an containing thirty verses which will intercede for its reciter until he is forgiven. It is Surah Tabarak Alladhi Biyadihil Mulk.” (Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith 2891; Abu Dawud, Hadith 1395; Sahih Ibn Hibban)
- Sayyiduna Jabir ibn ‘Abdillah (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ would not sleep until he recited Surah Al-Mulk and Surah As-Sajdah. (Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith 2892; Mustadrak Hakim)
These ahadith are not just encouragement, they are a roadmap. They show us that the Prophet ﷺ himself made this surah part of his nightly routine. If we follow this practice, we invite its intercession and protection into our lives.
How to Begin
If you’re new to memorizing or reciting regularly, start small:
- Read it from the mushaf every night before sleeping.
- Listen to a recitation during your commute or while winding down.
- Memorize one verse a day. In a month, you’ll have the entire surah in your heart.
Don’t worry about perfection. The journey of memorization is filled with repetition, mistakes, and growth. What matters is consistency and sincerity.
For the Busy Woman
Whether you’re a student, a mother, or working full-time, Surah Al-Mulk is manageable. It takes less than ten minutes to recite. Think of it as a spiritual investment, one that pays dividends in the grave and the hereafter.
A Final Reminder
The Prophet ﷺ taught us that this surah protects from the punishment of the grave. In a world where we prepare for everything – milestones, exams, travel – shouldn’t we also prepare for the inevitable journey ahead?
