14 Aug To the Student Who Feels Like Giving Up — You’re Not Alone, and You’re Not Failing
A Letter from My Heart to Yours
As a ḥifẓ teacher, I’ve watched students rise with hope — and I’ve watched them crumble under the weight of self-doubt. I’ve seen the sparkle in their eyes when they nail a page, and the tears when they feel as though they have forgetten everything they revised. I’ve held space for their joy, their guilt, their longing.
So if you’re in a season where memorising feels heavy, where revision feels impossible, where your mushaf feels distant, I want you to know: you’re not alone, and you’re not failing.
When the Journey Feels Like Too Much…
- One student once whispered, “Ustazah, I memorised while breastfeeding my baby at 3am. It wasn’t perfect, but it was sincere.” That sincerity is beloved to Allah.
- Another told me, “I stare at my mushaf and feel numb. I want to feel something, but I just don’t.” That numbness doesn’t mean you’ve drifted, it means you’re human.
- A teenage student cried, “I feel like the Qur’an doesn’t love me back.” She hadn’t revised for weeks, and shame kept her away. But the moment she recited even one āyah, her heart softened again.
These aren’t failures. These are sacred moments of return. And I’ve seen them transform hearts.
Now Imagine This…
- You’re standing before Allah, and He shows you the reward for the one āyah you read through exhaustion.
- He reminds you of the night you chose Qur’an over sleep – even if it was just for five minutes.
- He shows you how your soul grew every time you whispered, “Ya Allah, help me,” and picked up your mushaf again.
Those moments you thought were small? They were mountains in the sight of Allah.
You Were Chosen — Even With Your Struggles
- Allah didn’t choose you because you’re perfect. He chose you because you keep coming back.
- Shaytan will use your tiredness, your guilt, your comparison; in fact, anything to pull you away.
- But you? You’re still here. Still trying. Still whispering āyāt when no one sees. That’s courage. That’s love.
🌱 Even One Page Is Enough — I Promise You
- Don’t wait for the perfect mood. Just open your mushaf. Even if it’s with a sigh.
- Read one āyah. One line. One page. Let it be your offering to Allah, an offering full of sincerity.
- Be from those who keep going while others give up. Be from those who rise in the night, even if it’s just to say “Ya Allah, I miss You.”
- Be from those whose hearts are quietly anchored in the Qur’an, even when their minds feel scattered.
💖 Conclusion: You’re Not Behind. You’re Beloved.
Dear student, I see you. I see your effort, your pain, your longing. And more importantly, Allah sees it. You are not behind. You are not failing. You are on the path, and that’s enough.
May Allah honour every student who memorises between chores, tears, and tiredness. May He accept every āyah recited in weakness, and make it a light on the Day of Judgement. May He make us from the people of the Qur’an : those who live it, love it, and rise by it. Ameen.
