09 Nov What is your constant struggle?
“Do you think you will be admitted into Paradise without being tested like those before you? They were afflicted with suffering and adversity and were so ˹violently˺ shaken that ˹even˺ the Messenger and the believers with him cried out, “When will Allah’s help come?” Indeed, Allah’s help is ˹always˺ near. (214)” Al-Baqara 2:214
“Bismillahi Rahmani Raheem
One of the things that I’m most grateful for in these blessed 10 days is that Allah gave me a fighting chance. He gave me another chance to connect with Him just like He always does. He blessed me with these 10 days and with them Barakah that’s more than I can even imagine, reminders to stay on His path, Dhikr to keep my heart at rest and the opportunity to make a pilgrimage in my home.
Reflecting on this verse and I can’t help but think that the trials I have gone through, even the loss I have faced is ‘bearable’ when I think of the trials of the Prophets, the companions and all those who were steadfast in laying a foundation for what Islam has become today. Not to belittle my tests but to instead remember that what I’ve faced is as a result of Allah’s mercy and His infinite knowledge of what I’m able to bear.
If I were to list my trials, managing distractions will definitely top that list..I find it to be a constant struggle, it might seem trivial. But when you dig deep, you’ll see how it can be a major hindrance and sometimes present itself in what is a permissible form i.e. earning a living. But even with this trial, Allah’s mercy is more evident, and we see that in the many ways He has blessed us to connect with him through obligatory and supererogatory acts of worship. He keeps giving us chances and lacing our paths with opportunities. There are blessings in all the months, Ramadan was just a few months ago, now we are in the blessed 10 days. Let’s not even get started on the daily, weekly moments we have to connect with Him. Alhamdullilahi, these tests are there but He has given us a way to make it back to Him. Alhamdullilahi robbil alameen.
