Quran Retention: The 5 T’s

Quran Retention: The 5 T’s

Assalamu alaykum

Question: How can I retain the Qur’an?

Answer: This is a common question for seekers of knowledge irrespective of their level. I know it is a lifetime quest. However, I found the following tips (My 5 T’s) helpful:

Tafsir: Acquaint yourself with the ayah by reading brief commentary and explanation of the ayah/surah you are trying to memorise/ revise/ retain in the language that you understand.

Taddabbur :Contemplate and relate with the ayah (body, mind and soul). Extract the message for “you”.

Taking Notes: We are the Ummah of writing . Journaling helps with encoding the verse/surah in your long term memory.

To-Do’s: What are your action points from the verse/surah? Live with the ayah, wherever you are.

Teaching Others: The Prophet ﷺ) said, “The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.” ”Wealth goes away as it is spent, but knowledge grows upon spending it” (Imam Ibn Qayyim –Miftaah daar as- Sa’aadah). Teach what you know (kids, friends and families). It stays with you and you spread the khayr.

May Allah make us among the people of the Qur’an. Ameen

Your Sister in Islam,

Rahmah
