11 May The heart loved by Allah SWT
Allah loves the soft heart. From such a heart stems kindness and gentleness, characteristics which are beloved to Allah. We can soften our hearts by realising there is nothing more beneficial for it than reflecting upon the ayat of Allah. Engage in thinking about and implementing ayat. Don’t go for long periods without a connection to the deen. That is a cause of hard-heartedness.
When you are far from the deen, pursuing desires and sin, the guilt that comes with committing these acts will gradually replace with pleasure and unrepentance. It is what desensitises the heart and hardens it.
Ibn al-Qayyim (ra) said, “There are five things that corrupt the heart: (1) excessive socialisation, (2) following desires, (3) heart being attached to more than Allah, (4) excessive eating and (5) excessive sleeping.”
When a heart is corrupt, not even the best advice will benefit a person. We must keep away from these things and maintain a steady connection with the deen.
“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that is not humble, from a supplication that is not heard, and a soul that is not satisfied.”
