27 Apr Time is of the essence
There are 24 precious hours in a day, but how many of us squander most of them? Multiply these wasted hours by days, weeks, months, and years and subtract the time we spend asleep and you realize just how little time is left for actual worship and beneficial acts.
Fridays are sacred for they are supposed to be a day of remembrance and unity, but how many of us just look forward to it because it marks the end of the work week and the beginning of the weekend—a period synonymous with fun and entertainment?
Every day should be divided to account for life’s most important priorities. But what are those priorities? Sidi Ahmad Zarruq, the 15th century sage and spiritual master, helps us to not only portion our time better but also check our nafs with all the subtle misdeeds that we do every day but fail to even recognize.
May we be people who spend our time wisely, not waste it. May we be given ample time to do more good & rectify the wrongs we’ve done. And may our time only come to an end when we have lived a meaningful life of worship of Allah, sincere devotion to His path as laid out by His beloved ﷺ, and service to His creation. Amin!
