Reflections on Surah AlKahf

Reflections on Surah AlKahf

Assalamu alaykum,

The surah that we recited every week and memorize or have memorized, contains many gems for us to reflect upon and take action:

  1. The sleepers of the cave seemed to be in an impossible situation, but they trusted Allah SWT and made dua. They did whatever was in their capabilities, even if it was just fleeing to a cave. Allah SWT took care of the rest. Lesson: Do what is within your capabilities and leave the rest to Allah.
  2. The owner of the garden incorrectly assumed that worldly wealth is a sign of his own greatness. Lost in delusions of grandeur, he lost everything overnight. Lesson: Thank Allah SWT for your blessings, and do not ascribe greatness to yourself
  3. On the surface, the story of Khidr  shows many bad things happening to good people. In reality, these calamities were blessings in disguise. Lesson: Have good thoughts of Allah SWT, especially regarding the tests in our lives.
  4. Dhul Qarnayn did not treat all people the same. He was kind to righteous people and punished the criminals. Lesson: Justice is not treating everyone equal, justice is protecting the innocent from crime and oppression.
