How I memorized a juz in 15 days on my own:

Assalaamu alaykum,

My doaa is that you are well & with blossoming iemaan.

There are many different methods in which we can memorize the Quran, and each of us will have our own goals, too.

While I am generally not an advocate for memorizing rapidly over a very short period, I did want to share a process that has worked for one sister. The tools she utilized are ones that we can all apply, regardless of the pace or challenges in our learning journeys.

BetawfeeqAllah!

I’m a adult busy dealing with harsh waves of life. I’m past the age everyone says optimum for memorizing the Qur’an. I’m not smart or have good memory. I’m a woman in a country where finding good female teacher is near to impossible. I, almost all the time, have chores waiting to be done.

But I’m sincere to learn and adamant on not quit on the word of Allah. These love letters has to be engraved in my heart. However cold the fajr seems. However difficult it might get to keep pushing myself. However easy it might seem to just give up. I’m sincere. I want the Qur’an to be beating in my chest.

Tools I use:

-Tajweed: learnt in front if a teacher. Knows how to use all the rules.

-Mushaf: Uthmani script of 15 lines per page

-Device to listen recitation from

-Device to record myself and hear my recording.

Time: After fajr.

Process:

  1. Listen to recitation of the Ayat 10 times while reading it myself.
  2. Read without the reciter for 3 times.
  3. Recite without looking.
  4. Read (by looking) the previous Ayah and the current Ayah 3 times.
  5. Recite both the ayahs without looking.

Before ending i record myself reciting (without looking) the page of the day. Listen to the recording. Correct my mistakes. Mark them in my mushaf so I don’t make them again.

I, without missing a day, did this for 15 days. Some days I could do 2 pages others only 1 page. But I never miss.

I recite the day’s page in my Salah, when I’m cooking, when I’m sweeping, and every other time I’m left with my thoughts.

Alhamdulillah, i know it’s just one juz. But it’s a great achievement for me. I never believed I could actually do. But Allah azzawajal has made it easy for me as He has promised.

May Allah make us implement on the Qur’an we memorize and be a source of guidance to ourselves and others around us. Aameen.
