30 Sep Connecting to The Quran with Purpose
Allah ﷻ describes the believers as those whose faith increases when the verses of the Quran are recited to them. Meaning, the Quran, the words of Allah ﷻ, have a direct effect upon their hearts; they actually feel the Quran. When they are reciting the Quran themselves or when they are listening to it they feel the power, beauty, and eloquence of the words of Allah ﷻ in their hearts. And as a result of this, their iman becomes stronger.
Reciting the Quran is not meant to be simply a ritual act or a formality. Rather it is something that should be done with purpose.
The main purpose or objective of reciting the Quran or listening to the Quran should be to reflect, ponder, and think over its meanings. As Allah ﷻ says, “[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.”
As we listen to these words they should have an effect on our lives. The words of the Quran are transformative. They’re extremely powerful. If it has the ability to cause a mountain to humble itself, crumble and turn to dust, imagine what effect it can have on our hearts.
So as we’re listening to the Quran, we should be asking ourselves how this recitation is affecting our lives? How is the recitation of the Quran affecting us? How is it changing us? While we listen to the words of Allah do we feel our Iman increasing? While we hear the descriptions of hell does our skin crawl? When we hear about the mercy of Allah do our eyes fill with tears?
If we want the Quran to change our lives we have to establish a relationship with the Quran.
