02 Oct Positive Friendships & Memorisation of Qur’aan
Bismillah
Assalaamu ‘alaykum wa Rahmatullah,
One of the key concerns during & after the process of memorisation of Al Qur’aan, is that of the impact of the student’s friends & companions. More often than not, many mothers & teachers voice this concern – Perhaps it’d be best that we redefine this as a blessing or an opportunity, for, if we were to channel postive friendships in the right direction, we would soon witness the blossoming of beautiful friendships that have a great, positive impact on one’s memorisation of Al Qur’aan, inshaa Allah!
Personally, I’ve witnessed numerous students make complete turn-abouts in their attitude towards or learning of Al Qur’aan, purely by merit of postive, good influences. Truly, a good friend is a gift from Allah! I’ve seen students on the verge of giving up memorisation, only to strive even harder competitively or resume their dream of becoming a haafidha..all because of an encouraging friend!
This cannot be emphasised sufficiently: Having a good friend who encourages & shows interest in your memorisation – and better still, a friend who is memorising Qur’aan just like you!
Sure, we all have different friends within our circle of friendship: we may have certain friends that are keen on reading, others who are interested in politcs, cuisine, travel & so forth. Extremely important is having atleast one friend with whom you share the passion for learning & remembering the Qur’aan! SubhaanAllah! And these friendships are the most special, blessed & exquisite, for they are based on our attachment to the pristine Deen.
Ar Rasoolullah (sallalahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) provided us with the perfect compass for muslim friendships, when he said: “A person is likely to follow the faith of his friend, so look who you befriend.” [Saheehayn]
This earthy life is so short. Brief. Transitory. Illusive. Yet, the companionship of a good, believing, encouraging, conscious, supportive friend is one of the most effective ways to improve & enhance your relationship with Al Qur’aan.
SubhaanAllah! There’s so much more that I wish to share with you on the establishment of good friendships & your progress with Qur’aanic memorisation – inshaa Allah, I hope to post more on this topic, including a checklist for good friends, in the coming week.
Dear Sisters: Having said that, friendships are fragile, yet precious too..so, will our freindships make OR break our relationship & progress with Al Qur’aan???
Rayhaanah
“O you who believe! Take care of your own selves. If you follow the right guidance and enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong no hurt can come to you from those who are in error. The return of you all is to Allah, then He will inform you about (all) that which you used to do.” Qur’an (Surah 5, Verse 105)
